The flat

Fifty square metres, ceilings at 2.70 metres, pale plank flooring throughout. The building was rebuilt in 1950 — plain post-war architecture with generously cut rooms.

The living room

Living room with a three-seater, an armchair, a coffee table and a rug on pale plank flooring.
The living room — French doors, high ceilings, plenty of light

Morning light comes through the double doors and reaches the back of the room. A three-seater, an armchair, a coffee table, and a small side table with a lamp beside the chair. On the shelf there is reading about Kiel — for the first weekends, before you know the city.

The television doubles as a Bluetooth speaker and sits on a trolley. Leave it in the living room, or wheel it into the bedroom and watch from bed.

If you have someone to stay, the sofa works as a guest bed.

The workspace

High table in the kitchen with a bar stool, sockets and a USB port in the wall.
The workspace — two places to choose from

You have a choice. In the living room, a teak bureau from the sixties, a watercolour above it, a leather desk chair in front that you can still sit in at nine in the evening. There are sockets at the desk.

Or take the high table in the kitchen: a bar stool, sockets and a USB port in the wall beside it, the coffee machine within reach. Some things get written faster standing up.

If you need something different for your stay — a larger desk, say — tell us before you move in. We will set it up.

The bedroom

Bedroom with a box-spring bed, bedside tables and reading lamps on each side.
The bedroom — quiet, blacks out completely

A box-spring bed, 1.60 by 2.00 metres, with a bedside table and reading lamp on each side. There is an alarm clock on one of them. The room blacks out completely. The linen is changed at every clean.

The kitchen

Kitchen with an induction hob, an oven, a large fridge and a high table with bar stools.
The kitchen — cook when you feel like it

If you want to cook, nothing is missing. A four-ring induction hob, an oven with microwave, a large fridge with its own freezer, a dishwasher, a kettle, a toaster. Salt, oil, spices and coffee are in the cupboard when you arrive. Four fit at the high table, on bar stools.

And if you would rather not cook, that is just as easy. You are central enough to walk out for dinner, and every delivery service comes to the door.

Coffee

Two machines, because people drink coffee differently. A Siemens bean-to-cup grinds fresh and makes flat whites, cappuccinos and everything between; next to it a classic filter machine. Both come with a thermos jug — so you are not up every twenty minutes.

Storage

The teak wardrobe has a full hanging rail and shelves — built for months, not for a weekend bag. There is also a chest of six drawers and a clothes rail for whatever needs to air.

In the wardrobe you will find a folding ironing board and a steam iron. Stay half a year and sooner or later there is a shirt to press.

Suitcases and anything you do not need day to day can go in the attic. There is a bicycle room for bikes.

The bathroom

Bathroom with a walk-in shower, a rain head and a heated towel rail.
The bathroom — walk-in shower, warm towels

A walk-in shower with a rain head and a heated towel rail — in winter, a difference you stop wanting to do without after the first morning. Under the basin, a cupboard for what would otherwise stand out in the open; the hairdryer and the scales live in there.

The balcony

Balcony with two chairs and a small table, looking onto Bülowstraße.
The balcony — looking onto Bülowstraße

Two chairs and a small table, looking onto the street. You see Bülowstraße running up and down, the houses opposite, the junction — and somebody walking past every so often. It is not loud, but there is something to watch.

When it turns cool, there are two sheepskins that fit the chairs — in the laundry basket on top of the bedroom wardrobe.

How quiet it is

Bright hallway with plank flooring and glass doors, looking towards the kitchen.
First floor, left wing — mostly owner-occupied

The building has sixteen flats, four to a floor. This one is on the first floor, in the left wing: one flat above, one below, and no neighbour on one side. The only shared wall is the one between the two bedrooms.

The living room and the bedroom face the street, the kitchen the courtyard. With the windows shut you hear next to nothing from outside. With a window open you hear cars on the cobbles — Bülowstraße is a cobbled street.

Most of the flats are lived in by their owners.
